Fund and market highlights

The return of Inflation in April
  • Inflationary pressure seems to be building up across geographies as commodity and crude prices rose in April. Moreover, the fear of higher interest rates in the US and Greece’s exit from the euro zone are still prevailing over global capital markets sentiment.
  • Growth in developed economies is not yet moving at a good pace and that is casting a shadow on the ability of emerging economies to grow exports. Hence, the overall mood is uncertain and capital market volatility is reflecting this.
  • According to data from EPFR Global, a fund flow aggregator, equity funds are witnessing redemptions. China and US equity funds, which were getting inflows, are now seeing money move out.  However, European debt and equity funds are yet to see outflows even though EPFR suggests that the possibility can’t be ruled out.
  • The ones in favour at the moment are Japanese and Russian equity funds. Furthermore, bond funds as a category are the ones seeing inflows over equity and money market funds.
  • Gold managed to reverse its downtrend in April, moving up 4.3% during the month.
